The flying Frenchman was called up to make his 2017 debut in Malaysia in place of Daniil Kvyat and, after proving his mettle, he was named as Toro Rosso driver the following year.  But just 12 races into his fledgling career, Gasly was called off the bench again – this time to replace Red Bull big gun Daniel Ricciardo.
Pierre Gasly seems to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time – a quality that’s equally handy on track. A series of impressive 2018 performances for Toro Rosso – including a brilliant fourth place in Bahrain – show exciting promise for what he might do with the ‘A’ team in 2019.
Out of the car, Pierre Gasly exudes the sort of joie de vivre that comes with knowing he has the best job in the world. So happy is Pierre Gasly that he even joined the Red Bull boy band for a spot of Spice Girls karaoke before the British Grand Prix. We can’t imagine where that idea came from…
There is only one thing that irks the latest in a high-quality line of Red Bull juniors – don’t call him Max Verstappen. After frequently getting mistaken for the Dutch dynamo in the Red Bull motorhome, Pierre Gasly better get used to the comparisons as he takes him on as his team mate in 2019.
